Informational seminars on weight loss surgeryMaking the decision to undergo weight loss surgery is an education process best aided by medical professionals such as surgeons and physicians, dietitians, and counselors. The greatest chance for long term success is reinforced by a well-informed decision and the championship of others who support and encourage the goals being set. At the Minnesota Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIMIS), informational seminars are presented to provide information to individuals interested in weight loss surgery, by a team of heath care professionals, including surgeons. General weight loss and obesity information is covered, as well as procedural/surgical information on both the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and the LAP-BAND® System procedures. These routine seminars are required for any individual who will undergo a surgical procedure at MIMIS. They are also appropriate for those simply interested, their spouses, family members, and friends. MIMIS also offers an online internet resource to patients who are contemplating, or have already undergone, a weight loss procedure. Bariatric-forums.com is an ongoing discussion forum for anyone interested in learning more about the gastric bypass or the lapband procedures. At this site, a wide range of discussion topics will cover all aspects of weight loss surgery. The forum can be browsed by a guest, or confidential registration allows an individual to ask and answer questions about bariatric surgery. Moderated by all of the bariatric surgeons and other medical professionals at MIMIS, the information and support is invaluable.
